Kazaam Skate & Snow is an independent shop in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This illustration/design was created to appeal to the shops customer base: the young, predominantly male, demographic of skateboarders and snowboarders. Typography was integrated into the image, in the form of the shop’s name carved into the side of a human skull. This image was chosen because it is consistent with the visual language of skate/snowboard graphics, which has ties to punk and metal iconography. The color palette was chosen to recreate the vibrant, energetic color choices of early skate graphics. Initially conceptualized as a sticker, this design has gone on to be used on promotional buttons.
